  • Pride In Engineering (PIE) Ltd. is a registered non-profit in Alberta, Canada with a mission to inspire, support, and connect 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals in engineering.

  • Pride in Engineering was founded in June 2023 in Edmonton, Alberta, by two queer Mechanical Engineers who graduated from the University of Alberta. We became a registered non-profit in November 2023.

  • We have a constitution that is available to the public. The PIE Leadership team regularly reviews and updates this if needed. Here is the link to the constitution if you need to read it.

  • As of now, we are based in Edmonton, Alberta and do not have a physical office. We are slowly building our network and community, and the goal is to have a national (and eventually global) reach.

  • PIE is funded through a combination of sponsorships, donations, and grants. Our operations are fully run and supported by volunteers, ensuring that the majority of funds go directly towards our mission and programs.

  • PIE hosts a variety of events including networking sessions, professional development workshops, social gatherings, and webinars focused on issues pertinent to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in engineering. These events aim to build a supportive network, provide valuable resources, and promote visibility and inclusion within the engineering field.

  • No! Our events are open to individuals outside of engineering and 2SLBGTQIA+ community. As stated in our mission statement, “... 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals in engineering”, so you can be a project manager, HR, finance, technicians, etc. that work in engineering and you are welcomed! 

    If you are neither a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community nor working in engineering, we still welcome all allies who support our mission attend our events!

  • PIE offers a variety of free resources aimed at supporting and educating 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals in engineering and their allies. These resources are available for download on our website. We aim to empower individuals and organizations to foster inclusive environments and better support queer and trans employees.

  • Becoming a member of PIE is easy and free! Simply sign up for our Newsletter to be counted as a member and stay updated with our activities and initiatives.

  • No! We have diverse members with different gender and sexual identity, education, and profession. As stated by our mission, “... 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals in engineering”, so you can be a project manager, HR, finance, technicians, etc. that work in engineering and you are welcomed! 

    Additionally, if you are neither a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community nor working in engineering, we still welcome all allies who support our mission to be a PIE member!

  • No, unfortunately. Donation receipts are for contributions that are specifically donations (i.e., no reciprocity or exchanges of goods and services). Sponsors would generally get perks and benefits in a project as discussed in the sponsorship package.

  • Yes! As mentioned, we are a non-profit that is fully run and operated by a team of volunteers. If you want to support PIE but do not have the time commitment to be a volunteer, we welcome monetary donations as well. Your contributions, no matter the size, will help fund future projects to carry out our mission. Click this link to donate: https://prideinengineering.org/donate


    Additionally, we provide donation receipts for tax purposes to ensure your support is recognized.

  • Discord is an instant messaging social platform that allows communication through messages, sharing of media and files, voice calls, video calls, etc. PIE has a Discord server that has members across North America (with a goal to eventually have a global Discord community), and we use this as a way to get connected with other 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals in engineering and our allies. We can send messages, photos, memes, videos, and many more!

    The Leadership team also uses this same Discord server to discuss PIE business activities, and as a way to feel more connected with our general member PIE community.
